And loving every minute of it.
L took her first ever jazz class today, and she was in her element! Lots of leaps, turns. and hip shaking...and all this on day one.
Getting to know her teacher, Miss Dayah on the first day of Ballet I (the next level of ballet class).
L has loved to dance for years. She dances and twirls around as much as she walks. And she's been walking on her tiptoes almost as long as she could walk. She watches So You Think You Can Dance and imitates the dancers performing on the show, and says that she wants to be on the show one day. In short: she LOVES to dance!
She's been taking a combination ballet/tap class for the past couple of years. It mostly ballet, with a few minutes of tap thrown in toward the end. The dance classes at the studio where L takes ballet runs on a schedule echoing her school- from August through June. Today was the last class of this year. Although she's sad that this year is over, she's looking forward to next year when she will continue to the next level of ballet, and also try jazz for the first time, as her teacher recommended that she take both in tandem. I'm not sure how taking two classes will go, but she loves dancing so much that we want to expose her to different styles. Having never been a dancer, I don't know much about jazz, but the little I do know sounds right up L's alley.
Watching her dance brings me so much joy. She's so full of concentration and is always eager to learn and improve. I'm excited to see where her dancing shoes take her from here!
Second full year of dance and second recital in the books. She enjoys dancing so much, it's such a joy to watch. For the past two years she's been enrolled in a ballet/tap combo class. Really, it's mostly ballet, with a few minutes of tap thrown in at the end of each class. Next year, per her teacher's recommendation, she'll be moving on to Ballet I. She'll also be starting Jazz I, which will be completely new territory for her. I don't know much about jazz dance, but her teacher thinks she will enjoy the leaps and turns. And after watching a few jazz routines in today's recital, I think she's right. L is constantly dancing. She's been walking on her toes for as long as I can remember, and she's always twirling and leaping around.
I'm so proud of her, and for all the dancers today. I don't know if I would ever have the courage to dance up on stage in front of so many people! I asked her if she was nervous, and she said no. Was she excited? Yes! That's my pro.
If you need us over the summer, we'll be watching the new season of So You Think You Can Dance...and L will be following along closely, imitating the dancers.
